Following Daylight Saving Time legislation in the US

Missouri House Committee Approves HJR 38 to Put Year-Round DST Question to the Voters

According to the Missouri legislative web site tracking the bill, members of the Missouri House of Representatives on the Government Efficiency Committee have voted “Do Pass” for a Resolution that would put the question of Year-Round Daylight Saving Time to the voters at the next general election, and if approved, attempt to observe Year-Round DST in the state starting next year.

Only problem is — Year-Round DST is against the restrictions of the federal statute which covers Daylight Saving Time.  For the measure to reach the voters, it still needs to be passed by the Senate and approved by the governor. But if it went to the voters and they approved it, Year-Round DST would still not be permitted.

In fact, according to the federal statute, 15 USC 260a, the US Department of Transportation could sue in district court to “enforce compliance” with the federal statute.

Note: a previous version of this post indicated that the full House had passed the measure. This post has been updated to reflect the correct legislative action.
