Following Daylight Saving Time legislation in the US

Idaho Proposal to Stop DST – On July 1?

So there is indeed a piece of legislation working its way through the Idaho House of Representatives to stop Daylight Saving Time in the state.  Here at Time Zone Report, we’re generally in favor of any bill that removes DST.

But this bill proposes to stop DST on July 1, 2015.  What??  In the middle of Daylight Saving Time?  And on a Wednesday morning??

Sorry, but in my opinion, that’s just crazy!

I’ve written to the Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee as well as the bill’s sponsor, indicating my opinion that a January 1, 2016 effective date would be preferable. Let all DST in 2015 start and end on the normal dates, and don’t go on DST in 2016.

It really can be that simple.
