Well, this caught me off-guard, since it’s still early December 2015, but Representative Kristin Jacobs has filed HB 893 in the Florida legislature for consideration in their 2016 session, according to the Florida state legislature web site<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I haven’t moved all the 2015 legislative activity on the Time Zone Report’s web site to a “historical\/archive” location yet, but was planning to do that during the latter part of December.\u00a0 But looks like I’ll need to move that up a bit.<\/p>\n

Here is the proposed legislation:<\/p>\n

 1                        A bill to be entitled\r\n 2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An act relating to daylight saving time; providing a\r\n 3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 short title; requiring that the State of Florida and\r\n 4\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 its political subdivisions observe daylight saving\r\n 5\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 time year-round; providing an effective date.\r\n 6\r\n 7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WHEREAS, the State of Florida is known as the \"Sunshine\r\n 8\u00a0 State,\" and\r\n 9\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WHEREAS, as the \"Sunshine State,\" Florida should be kept\r\n 10\u00a0 sunny year-round, NOW, THEREFORE,\r\n 11\r\n 12\u00a0 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:\r\n 13\r\n 14\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Section 1. (1) This section may be cited as the \"Sunshine\r\n 15\u00a0 Protection Act.\"\r\n 16\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (2)\u00a0 Notwithstanding how time is advanced pursuant to 15\r\n 17\u00a0 U.S.C. s. 260(a), daylight saving time shall be the year-round\r\n 18\u00a0 standard time of the entire state and all of its political\r\n 19\u00a0 subdivisions.\r\n 20\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2016.<\/pre>\n
Following the same process as last year, I’ve written to Representative Jacobs and included a link to my conversation with the US DOT<\/a>, in addition to my recommendation that she instead follow the lead of the Nevada Assembly’s AJR 4<\/a> as an alternative.<\/p>\n
